FPGA Developer AMI
Overview
FPGA (Field Programmable Logic Gate Array) AMIs are built on CentOS Linux images provided, supported, and maintained by Amazon Web Services. The AMI is pre-built using the FPGA development and operating tools necessary to develop and customize FPGAs for hardware acceleration. The FPGA Developer AMI, along with the FPGA Developer Developer Kit (https://github.com/aws/aws-fpga ), forms a development environment that includes scripts and tools to simulate FPGA design, compile code, build, and register AFI (Amazon FPGA Image). Developers can deploy FPGA developer AMIs on Amazon EC2 instances and quickly provision the resources they need to write and debug FPGA designs in the cloud. AMIs are designed to provide a stable, secure, and high-performance development environment. FPGA AMIs are offered free of charge to Amazon EC2 users.

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
