    Overview

This is an official CentOS HVM image built with a minimal configuration file and only applies to HVM instance types. The image contains only enough software packages to run in Amazon Web Services, enable the SSH server, and allow users to log in. Note that this is the default CentOS image that Centos.org recommends everyone use. It contains software packages that are updated at certain points in time to include important security updates. David Duncan is Amazon Web Services' partner solutions architect. He is also a Red Hat Certified Architect and Red Hat Certified Engineer. He works closely with open source partners to make more open source software support Amazon EC2. David Duncan is also a member of the CentOS community and has been involved in CentOS development and community development and management.

    Highlights

    • Although all official CentOS Linux images are built with SELINUX settings enforcing. But we also ran the same tests with SELinux set to enabled.
    • Currently, all CentOS AMIs support cloud-init, and the default username is “centos”. Once the instance is launched, you can log in as that user and run higher-privilege commands using sudo. You can use instance user data to override this default username during instantiation.
    • We recommend checking out the CentOS Amazon Web Services Cloud Wiki page at http://wiki.centos.org/Cloud/AWS for details on how to build these images, extend and add functionality to the images, and a guide to getting started.
