Palo Alto Networks VM-Series Next-Generation Firewall (BYOL)
Overview
The VM Series Next Generation Firewall is an Amazon Web Services networking and security competency certified solution that can be fully integrated into your Amazon Web Services deployment workflow. Developers and cloud security architects can use native Amazon Web Services automation features and workload tagging to create “contactless” deployments in combination with VM series guided configurations stored in Amazon Web Services S3 buckets. App whitelisting and segmentation policies can be dynamically updated based on Amazon Web Services tags, allowing you to reduce attack surface area and achieve compliance, while threat prevention policies block known and unknown attacks.
The advanced architecture design includes support for transit VPCs and full integration with Amazon Web Services Auto Scaling and Elastic Load Balancing (ELB, ALB, NLB). The Panorama Centralized Management Platform (purchased separately) allows the VM series to be centrally managed along with our firewall devices to maintain security policies consistent with the local environment.
VM Series BYOL allows you to choose the VM Series next-generation firewall license, associated subscriptions, and annual support services that suit your needs.
Highlights
- Integration with Amazon Web Services Auto Scaling and ELB supports continuous protection for dynamic workloads.
- Transport VPCs centralize security and connectivity to reduce costs and simplify management.
- CloudWatch integration enables the VM series to be actively monitored along with other resources deployed in the Amazon Web Services environment.

Usage instructions
Before using the VM Series web interface, refer to the documentation for detailed steps to set an administrative password. Once the instance is running, connect to it using an SSH client and the private key file used to launch the instance. For example: ssh -i <privatekey.pem>. Then set the password using the PAN-OS CLI command “configure”, “set mgt-config users admin password”, and the “commit” command.
